Designed by Chicago architect August Maritzen in the Second Empire style. Maritzen specialized in breweries, designing 80+ in the US, Canada and South Africa.
Named in honor of Emma Koehler. Husband died 1914. Made this brewery the only one here to survive Prohibition(1920-1933). Died 1943.
